About our founder
The founder of EUCON International School of Korea, Sarah Choi, was born into a family whose ancestors were among the early Korean Christians proselytized by Western missionaries. She came to Christ as a child through the ministry of her father. A church pastor, her father raised his children to believe in Christ alone without the influence of Confucianism. He also believed that women should be educated and encouraged his children to serve Christ with their lives.
Mrs. Choi decided to serve the Lord through music and education. She earned her BA and MA in Piano Pedagogy and Education in Music respectively and passed the rigorous Korean national teacher’s certification examination in 1979. She is now completing a PhD in church music. She started her career as a public high school teacher and later founded and operated professional music schools in Korea until she and her family moved to Saipan to serve as missionaries for a Chinese mission church.
Burdened about education and music, she continued her ministry in education. During the 1990s she served as a choir director at a mission church on Saipan and a music teacher at EUCON International School of Saipan, an outreach of Christian Way Missions. Recognized for her effective music education ministry for Chinese people and in a foreign mission field, she was granted the title of “honorary professor” by Cohen University and Theological Seminary. She is currently the chairman and headmaster of Moonhwa Committee which operates educational ministries to which Eucon International School of Korea is an extension arm.
History
In 2003 she and her family moved to China to gain more effective Mandarin training and work closely with house churches and local theological seminaries. She founded Hosanna Church Music Academy in China and served as its headmaster for four years. Her music school served as an effective tool for starting choirs at Chinese house churches and training Chinese people with professional music education for church music ministry.
At about the same time, Mrs. Choi’s daughter Sonia Park graduated from Bob Jones University and returned to Korea to teach at a Christian international school, and later pursued her MA at Yonsei University and career at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. Mrs. Choi also returned from China to teach music at the same International school. Soon, however, she sensed that God was calling her to begin a new Christian international school in her homeland. So Mrs. Choi contacted Dr. Christian Wei, president of Christian Way Missions and administrator of EUCON International School of Saipan where she had once been a teacher. A member of the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) and Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), EUCON of Saipan is a well-established institution with an effective in ministry.
Dr. Wei was eager to recognize Mrs. Choi’s Christian School as EUCON International School of Korea and a branch of the Saipan school in July 2009. Because of this relationship, Korean students have the option of spending their senior year on Saipan to obtain a dual diploma. While benefiting from the recognition and accreditation which EUCON of Saipan has established, EUCON of Korea maintains membership conferred by Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and Korea Council of Overseas Schools (KORCOS).
In 2013, Mrs. Choi founded Moonhwa Committee as a board for operating Eucon International School of Korea and other extended ministries such as Classic Journal, Adolescent Counseling Center, English Debate Research Institute and International Conservatory. EUCON International School of Korea has been working together with these extensions on partnership.
EUCON International School of Korea is a unique and leading fundamental Christian institution in Korea. Also, EUCON of Korea has been a faithful servant who supports Christian mission organizations around the world such as Brundi French School, and United African University of Tanzania, and Nutrition & Education International in Afghanistan.
God has blessed EUCON International School of Korea with a talented international faculty and staff that include teachers from Korea, United States, Canada, China, etc. All who minister at the school see it not only as a school but as a mission work, reaching students and parents for Christ and equipping to effectively serve Christ. We trust God will continue to work through our teachers and students to build a school that glorifies to His Name.
